2021 Writers Competition

Deadline is midnight, February 15th

If you’re polishing up a short story or essay (1000 words max) for the 2021 Write On The River Writers Competition, be ready to press “send” by midnight on Monday, February 15th. That’s the submission deadline for this year’s competition, which is open to any Washington state resident living east of the Cascade Mountains. (NOTE: current WOTR members living elsewhere in the state may also enter.)
This marks the fourteenth year of the competition. Submissions are on-line. They may originate as short form or be part of a longer work, but the judges will read each as complete and unified. Cash awards totaling $1200 will again be awarded to six writers, and the entry fee is still only $20, or $40 to receive three written critiques.

Membership in WOTR is not a requirement for those living in Eastern Washington, but it is a requirement for any writer living elsewhere in Washington. We are not accepting out-of-state submissions. The fee is $20 per submission or $40 per submission (the latter includes entry in the contest plus three written critiques.)
